LAHORE: There will be no gas loadshedding for domestic consum-ers but the industrial sector will have to bear loadshedding strictly according to the load management plan which will be announced next week after taking the stakeholders into confidence.
This load management plan will be finalised after meeting of Eco-nomic Co-ordination Committee (ECC) scheduled to be held next week, said Federal Minister for Petroleum & Natural Resources Syed Naveed Qamar while briefing media after his meeting with the representatives of CNG Association and All Pakistan Textile Mills Association at SNGPL office on Monday.
ISLAMABAD: The government is expected to increase oil prices by nearly Rs 5 per litre from November 1, 2010, in line with the hike in global oil prices, Business Recorder has learnt. "Global oil prices are posing rising impact in domestic oil prices by Rs 4-5 per litre which will be passed on to the consumers from November 1, 2010," sources said.
The international oil prices are showing rising trends as Brent (London) was traded at $82.25 a barrel and the basket of Opec (Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries) rose from $78.71 to $79.26 per barrel of oil on Monday.
ISLAMABAD: With 14 power generation plants rendered dysfunc-tional for various reasons, including six that have shut down purely due to non-availability of fuel (furnace oil), a massive shortfall of 3,576 MW has hit the system, causing daily loadshedding to be in-creased to almost 10-12 hours in Punjab’s urban areas and 15-16 hours in rural areas. To add to the worries, the remaining power generating companies too are left with just 3-4 days of oil stocks. This alarming picture has been revealed by the data compiled by the Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco).
In its official stance, however, Pepco claims that power deficit stands at 1,989 MW. According to the Pepco document (available with The News), Muzzafargarh Genco is left with three days of oil stocks for power generation whereas the Kot Addu power plant has fuel for just one more day of power generation operation.
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court Friday directed electricity regula-tor and generation companies of the country to apprise the court regarding the alleged corruption in Rental Power Projects (RPPs) and justification for escalation in electricity price on October 26.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muham-mad Chaudhry issued notices to National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), Pakistan Electric Supply Company (Pepco) and Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) while hearing a suo motu case on Rental Power Projects (RPPs).
KARACHI: Industrialists and traders have alleged that Karachi Elec-tric Supply Company (KESC) is deliberately destroying businesses by carrying out load shedding in residential, commercial and in-dustrial areas just to save the cost of furnace oil.
They said that on the pretext that Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has curtailed gas supply, resulting in shortfall in power ge-nerating and thereby increasing load shedding duration in the city, it has no vision what impact it has on industrial and commercial sectors.
